Conductor’s Quarters (Vine Street)

Brownwood, TX

The Conductor’s Quarters was the first of two rail car projects we remodeled for Lisa and Troy Abernathy (Owners of Depot Liquor) — and one of the most unique projects we’ve had the opportunity to work on. When the rail car was purchased, it was in near-original condition, having once housed railroad employees, but years of sitting unused in a pasture had taken their toll. The structure was intact, but time, weather, and neglect had left it in rough shape.

Our vision was to thoughtfully restore the rail car into what we imagined a luxurious captain’s or railroad owner’s quarters might have looked like — elevated, intentional, and comfortable, while still honoring the era it came from. Every design choice was made with that balance in mind, keeping the character and history of the rail car front and center while transforming it into a one-of-a-kind guest experience.

The end result is a space that feels both timeless and unexpected — a true blend of history and hospitality. We’re incredibly proud of how The Conductor’s Quarters came together, and it remains an active short-term rental in Brownwood today.
